Lowe’s Hiring More Than 50,000 Workers For Spring

Popular home improvement retail giant Lowe’s Inc. has announced plans to hire more than 50,000 retail associates across its U.S. stores this spring, the company said in a press release. The announcement comes as home improvement companies prepare for the busiest season of the year: Spring. The release said Lowe’s is looking to fill seasonal and full-time roles.

Lowe’s also announced an additional $80 million in discretionary bonuses to its hourly employees. Those eligible will be paid on Feb. 5, according to the release. Full-time hourly associates will receive $300, while part-time and seasonal associates get $150. The move marks the seventh bonus or special payment the company has provided hourly workers since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, totaling roughly $1.3 billion.

“As we approach spring, I am enormously proud of the way our associates have served customers and supported each other this past year through an unprecedented health crisis,” Lowe’s president and CEO Marvin R. Ellison said in the release. “We’re pleased to provide this additional bonus to support our current associates and excited to welcome these new associates so we can better serve customers across the country.”

Though the pandemic crushed some brick and mortar businesses, large home improvement retailers largely thrived thanks to the gained popularity in DIY. Lowe’s said in its release that the new job creations build upon hirings the company made in 2020. Lowe’s hired more than 90,000 associates into permanent roles over the past year, according to the release.

Lowe’s announced in August it would be launching a tool rental service, providing a more budget-friendly alternative to purchasing expensive equipment. According to Lowe’s, the tool rental department will feature drain cleaning, restoration, sanitation and concrete tools with brand names such as Husqvarna, Bosch and Metabo HPT.
