How To Build a Herringbone Wine Rack

Step 1: Drill Pocket Holes

Using a pocket-hole jig, drill two holes into one flat side of each piece. No need to be exact with the hole placement, but they should be approximately an inch from the side edges to create a strong joint.

Step 2: Build the First Layer

Build the First Layer

Starting with the bottom herringbone layer, lay out the pieces as shown in the photo below. Then screw the pieces together.

For this layer, the screws will go along the inside of the ‘W’ shape.

Step 4: Build the Second Layer

Build the Second Layer

Again, using the photos as a guide, lay out the second herringbone layer and screw the pieces together. For this layer, the screws will go along the underside of the ‘W’ shape.

Step 5: Glue the Layers Together

Glue the Layers Together

Apply a bead of glue between the herringbone layers and clamp them together.

Step 6: Allow Glue to Dry

Allow the glue to dry for several hours; then remove the clamps and fill your wine rack.
