Lowe’s Unveils New ‘Flex’ Power Tools for Pros
Last week, Lowe’s announced the launch of a line of power tools powered by a new and exclusive 24V lithium-ion battery platform called Flex. Lowe’s claims Flex will provide up to 20 percent more power and 50 percent faster charging than its competition, adding the platform was designed with trade professionals in mind.
“As the New Home for Pros, Lowe’s is committed to offering the very best quality, durability and product innovation for today’s most discerning builders, contractors and trade professionals,” said Bill Boltz, executive vice president of merchandising at Lowe’s. “This FLEX launch allows our customers to find the latest innovation in our tool department with a brand that will strengthen the industry and how people work.”
Flex batteries, tools and accessories will be available in stores on April 12. Lowe’s is planning to roll out more than one hundred Flex-compatible power tools over the next few years. Here are three tools that will be available at launch:
Flex 1/2-in. Two-Speed Drill Driver
This drill driver is described as the platform’s most powerful drill, capable of producing 1,400 inch-pounds of torque — which is a lot. It also has a “turbo mode” that can get the drill spinning at up to 2,500 RPM, plus anti-kickback technology for smoother operation.
Flex 1/4-in. Quick Eject Impact Driver
The Flex impact driver is designed to be versatile, featuring three drill speeds and a self-tapping screw mode. And thanks to its innovative “quick eject” chuck, users can swap out driver bits with one hand.
Flex Reciprocating Saw
According to Lowe’s, the FLEX reciprocating saw can cut up to 50 4×4’s on a single charge. The quick eject system makes it simple for users to switch out their reciprocating saw blades without touching the blade itself. And the saw’s vibration suppression technology reduces vibrations during use by up to 40 percent.
