Combination Square

Combination Square

A combination square is a must-have for marking and making square woodworking joints. It’s great for laying out joints, checking jointed edges for square or checking the depth of a mortise. The capability to measure 45 degrees makes marking corners on boxes or picture frames a breeze.

While available in four-, six- and 12-inch versions, I prefer the 12-inch version because it’s great for marking wood joints but also measures small cabinets for square. The 12-inch Irwin is a less expensive version of the professional grade Starrett for one-eighth the price.
