Why Toyota Is Recalling 100,000 Trucks and Replacing Engines for Free
Lately, it seems like there’s always been a new automotive recall in the headlines. This time, it’s Toyota. In July, news broke that Toyota recalled some of its trucks due to an engine problem. At the time, the company had not yet released a proposed fix for the issue. But they’ve recently sent out an update on the proposed repairs. Here, we’ll break down this recall for you and what the company is doing to fix it.
Why is Toyota Recalling Trucks?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported earlier this year that some Toyota trucks have debris left in the engines from the manufacturing process. This debris can “cause the main bearings to fail, which can result in an engine stall and loss of drive power.” According to a report from CNN, the debris can result in “banging or popping noises, the engine not running smoothly and even stalling altogether while driving.”
Which Trucks Are Included in the Recall?
This recall impacts the 2022 and 2023 models of gas-powered Toyota Tundras and Lexus LX 600s, an estimated 100,000 trucks in total. If you have one, the company will replace the engine at no cost to you. The NHTSA’s release states that Toyota alerted owners back in July 2024 when the problem was discovered and will alert them again once the company starts the process of replacing the engines for free.
How to Get Your Engine Replaced
If you own one of the vehicles affected by the Toyota recalls and you don’t want to wait for the letter, you still have options. The NHTSA says you can call Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota has confirmed that the repairs will be done at no cost to the customers.
