The Home Depot Sponsors ‘Signing Day’ for Trade School Students

The Home Depot has announced they are partnering with SkillsUSA to sponsor the organization’s 2021 National Signing Day, a celebration of high school graduates choosing careers in the skilled trades.

As part of their sponsorship, The Home Depot will fund six scholarships totaling $30,000 to help trade school students pay for their tuition. Recipients will be chosen by The Home Depot Foundation and SkillsUSA and announced during National Signing Day on May 4.

SkillsUSA hosted the first Signing Day in 2019. The event gives high school students heading towards careers in the trades the same kind of recognition as high school athletes signing letters of intent to collegiate athletic programs.

In just three years, National Signing Day drummed up significant support from trade associations, industry representatives and public figures. The Home Depot joins sponsors like Klein Tools, 84 Lumber and the National Coalition of Certification Centers. NFL quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, whose father was an electrician in Chicago, serves as a spokesperson for the event.

“Just like signing day was an unforgettable moment for me in high school, I think it’s just as important for us to acknowledge and celebrate the students who choose to pursue this career in the skilled trades,” Garoppolo said at the inaugural 2019 National Signing Day.

“Having witnessed firsthand the hard work, skill, and dedication of my dad for over 40 years, I applaud the young people in this country who are taking those next steps towards a career in the skilled trades.”
