There’s a catch, however. The owners pulled the listing once the Vatican made the announcement, and it’s unclear what exactly their plan is going forward. So if moving to the Chicago suburbs is on your bucket list, keep a close eye out in case this home does go back on the market.

What Was the Home Originally Listed At?

NBC Chicago spoke to the realtor for the sellers, who said that they purchased the 750-square-foot home in May 2024 for $66,000. They then listed it for sale again on May 5, 2025, for just under $250,000. The original listing touted the three bed two bath home’s “three levels of living space” as well as its location “on a quiet block.” It also highlighted the fact that it was move-in ready, with mostly new fixtures. But, the realtor told NBC Chicago, the owners pulled the house off the market once they heard the news.

Will The Owners of Pope Leo XIV’s Childhood Home Sell It?

It’s unclear exactly what the owners are going to do with the home at this time. Their realtor told NBC Chicago that they did receive several offers above the asking price when the news broke. However, he confirmed that they’re exploring all their options, some of which include “making the home a landmark, restoring it to the way it was when the pope lived in it or potentially re-listing it.” He also said that they’re hoping to get in contact with Pope Leo XIV’s brother, who still lives locally, as part of their decision-making process.
